Friend of AUCF Tim Schneider recently traveled to Uganda and visited the village of Awake. After returning, he wrote this reflection and this invitation to our annual benefit concert (which Tim and his friend Kristen organize).
It makes me so happy to witness the transformation of the village of Awake, Uganda. Last month, I returned to Kristina Health Center for the first time since it opened in 2012.
What I found was so encouraging.
Mothers filled with joy while awaiting free vaccinations for their babies.
One villager after another pumping clean water into their jerry cans to bring home to their families, without worry that the water might be unsafe.
And this little girl, Joan. She is 4 years old.
Joan came to KHC with a high fever, stomach pains, and low energy. Without KHC, Joan’s treatment options would be limited or impossible to access. But word about KHC had spread to Joan’s village, and her mother brought her in. KHC staff ran a series of tests, and diagnosed little Joan with malaria and a bacterial infection. She was given an IV, antibiotics and time to heal at the James Fee Patient Ward. Now, Joan is healthy, happy, and free to be four.
As we make preparations for the Sixth Annual AUCF Benefit Concert and Auction, I ask that you consider attending. While spending time with Julius during my trip, I was so inspired to hear about his work in Parliament, and the positive influence he’s having on his fellow Parliament members. I’m eager for him to share his remarkable story with you, and for him to meet you and thank you personally for your support.
Please save the evening of Saturday, October 21st for the AUCF. Tickets and sponsorship information hereWith gratitude,Tim SchneiderAUCF volunteer
